The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday don officially swear in two new lawmakers — Joseph Ikpea and Emmanuel Nwachukwu — to represent Edo Central and Anambra South senatorial districts.

The swearing-in ceremony happen for plenary under the supervision of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Ojo, administer the oaths of office and allegiance.

According to Channels TV report, the event follow the recent by-elections wey INEC conduct to fill two vacant seats. One of the seats belong to Monday Okpebholo, wey now be Governor of Edo State, while the other na late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, wey die for July 2024.

Before the ceremony start, Senate suspend im normal rule small to allow family members and special guests enter the chamber witness the event.

Some of the big names wey attend include former Delta State Governor James Ibori, former Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, wey also be Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Sports, and other top political figures.

As he welcome the new senators, Akpabio advise them make dem familiarise themselves with Senate rules and always abide by am as dem carry out their legislative duties.

With this inauguration, the Nigerian Senate don now get full house — 109 senators back on seat.
