Court Don Accept More Papers as Evidence for Emefiele $4.5bn Fraud Case

Justice Rahman Oshodi rule say the papers wey prosecution tender go enter as evidence after e overrule defence lawyers wey say the documents no qualify.

The judge also order trial-within-trial to confirm whether the second defendant, Henry Omoile, write im statement for EFCC hand by himself or dem force am.

Emefiele and Omoile dey face 19-count charge for abuse of office, corruption, and fraudulent property deals involving $4.5bn and ₦2.8bn.

For Thursday sitting, EFCC prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) continue with witness Alvan Gurumnaan testimony. Gurumnaan, wey be EFCC investigator, show say Emefiele collect over $600,000 direct and through people wey help am.

He talk say one contractor, Victor Onyedua, confess say he give money to “CBN management” before dem release im contract money. EFCC come tender more contract papers as evidence.

Defence lawyers Olalekan Ojo (SAN) and Rasheed Gbadamosi (SAN) try stop the papers, say dem be CBN public document wey no get certification. But Oyedepo argue say the papers na original copies from the contractor, so dem no need certification. The judge gree with prosecution and admit the papers as exhibit.

The court also collect one MI 10T phone wey belong to Emefiele assistant, John Adetola, as exhibit. Inside the phone, EFCC find WhatsApp chats where Henry tell Adetola make e give “Oga” $400,000.

Gurumnaan talk say Adetola confirm say he carry the money go Lekki give Ayo, Emefiele personal assistant, wey later hand am to the former CBN governor for office. He say another $200,000 follow later go the same person.

The defence come object say Omoile statement no free, say EFCC force am talk. Justice Oshodi come order mini-trial to check how dem collect the statement and adjourn the case go December 2 and 3, 2025.

The court also talk say parties go return November 21, 2025, to discuss how defence go inspect the phone and WhatsApp messages wey EFCC tender.
