Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy don announce say the 2025 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) no go hold again as dem plan.
The festival bin suppose start for Enugu State on November 22, but government say dem no fit continue because the insecurity wey dey happen for many parts of the country don cast big shadow on the national mood.
Nneka Anibeze, wey be Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, break the tori for Abuja on Saturday. She talk say Minister Hannatu Musawa and other stakeholders check the situation well before dem decide say make dem shift the festival.
According to her, the country dey mourn many lives wey don lost recently, and e no go make sense say people dey celebrate cultural festival when plenty families still dey cry.
She yarn say NAFEST na important event wey dey bring Nigerians together and show the world say the country get strong cultural unity and resilience. Over 28 states don prepare to participate before the postponement.
“Given the kind mood wey the nation dey now, government believe say e better make we postpone NAFEST than to do am when many Nigerians dey in pain,” the statement talk.
The Minister come add say the decision na to show empathy, unity and respect for the affected communities. New date go come out after government meet security people and other stakeholders.
The Ministry thank all states, cultural groups, partners and the public for their understanding, and promise say when NAFEST 2025 go eventually happen, e go strong well and bring Nigerians together more than before.
