African Democratic Congress (ADC) don record fresh political breakthrough for National Assembly as member of House of Representatives from Edo State, Hon Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, officially dump Labour Party (LP) join di opposition coalition platform.

Omoruyi, wey represent Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, be di last remaining LP member for House of Representatives from Edo State before im defection.

Speaking to journalists for Benin City, Edo State capital, di lawmaker say di decision to leave LP follow di loud demand from im constituents, wey don complain say dem no fit continue with di current situation.

According to am, e don stay committed to im legislative duties and oversight responsibilities since im election, even as im remain loyal to Labour Party despite di crisis wey dey rock di party.

“My strong support for LP earn me di name ‘The Last Man Standing,’” Omoruyi talk. “But despite all efforts, di deep crisis inside Labour Party don make my stay there impossible.”

He explain say e submit im resignation letter to di LP Ward 10 Chairman for Egor Local Government Area on December 30, 2025, and di resignation don already receive acceptance before im movement to ADC.

As e officially join ADC, Omoruyi promise to work closely with party leaders, coalition partners and stakeholders to promote good governance and effective representation.

“I pledge my full commitment to make sure say di voices of ordinary Nigerians dey heard and respected,” he say.

The lawmaker also reassure im constituents say di move no change im loyalty to dem, stressing say di step na to better serve their interests.

“Our people dey cry. Dem dey complain of bad roads and hardship. Life don hard under di current government,” Omoruyi add.

With dis development, Hon Murphy Omoruyi don become di first ADC lawmaker inside Nigeria’s National Assembly, as di party gradually dey extend im influence beyond state politics.
