Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) don announce say e go disburse N6.452 billion to tertiary institutions across Nigeria for the 2026 intervention cycle.
Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, disclose this one on Tuesday for Abuja during stakeholders workshop with heads of beneficiary institutions, where dem explain the 2026 disbursement guidelines.
According to Echono, under the planned 2026 intervention, each university go receive N2.525 billion, while each polytechnic go get N1.871 billion and colleges of education go collect N2.056 billion each.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report say TETFund don already share allocation letters give all beneficiary institutions.
Echono explain say about 90.75 per cent of the total funds go go directly to institutions. This include 50 per cent annual direct disbursement and 43.75 per cent special direct disbursement.
He say under the annual direct disbursement, 271 institutions go benefit, and all universities—no matter their age, size or number of students—go receive N2,525,932,228.02 each. Polytechnics go get N1,871,059,920.53 each, while colleges of education go receive N2,056,527,973.04 each.
According to am, the money go help strengthen critical infrastructure, improve academic programmes, support research and innovation, and drive overall transformation for Nigeria tertiary education sector.
Echono add say the intervention also aim to improve the quality and impact of research for beneficiary institutions. One new intervention line go focus on access to global academic resources and integration of the Tertiary Education, Research, Applications and Services (TERAS) platform into NgREN starting from the 2026 intervention.
“With these investments, 2026 go be year of growth, innovation and visible impact,” Echono talk.
He further explain say TETFund go continue to equip and upgrade research and development offices, laboratories and workshops. Student exposure programmes also go improve through partnerships with private sector and direct construction projects.
“We dey continue interventions for security infrastructure and training, dey complete abandoned projects, and dey improve design and technical relationships,” he say.
Echono add say research and innovation still remain top priority, with support for the National Research Fund, Research Meets Industry initiative, and commercialisation of research results. ICT development also remain key focus area.
He also reveal say several research laboratories still dey under development, with four expected to be completed and commissioned this year, while two more don start and go complete next year.
For agriculture sector, Echono say TETFund dey modernise large university farms with greenhouses and modern equipment to boost productivity and reduce manual labour.
