President Bola Tinubu don call on the leadership of the 10th Senate to start process to change Nigeria constitution so that state police go fit dey operate for the country.

The President make the appeal on Wednesday during interfaith breakfast wey him hold with senators for Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to statement wey him Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga release, Tinubu talk say security challenge for Nigeria don reach level wey require urgent action.

Tinubu explain say as terrorism, banditry and insurgency dey increase, e don become necessary to decentralise policing system so states go fit respond sharp-sharp to security issues for their areas.

“We dey face terrorism, banditry and insurgency. But we no go ever fail to respond well to these challenges,” the President talk. “I wan make una begin think how best to amend the Constitution to include state police so we fit secure our country, take back our forests from criminals and free our pikin dem from fear.”

The President add say state police go complement the existing federal security structure and go encourage better intelligence gathering plus community-based policing.

Tinubu still praise the peaceful working relationship between the executive arm and the National Assembly, say unity between both arms of government dey very important to defeat terrorism and banditry.

E thank the Senate for supporting major reforms under him administration, especially fuel subsidy removal and tax reforms. According to am, na bold but necessary decisions wey help stop what he describe as “monumental corruption” under the subsidy regime.
