- Ten days don waka since resident doctors under the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) begin dia nationwide strike, and patients for hospital across the country still dey suffer.
Hospitals for Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Benue, Niger, and Bauchi no dey run full services again. Consultants and nurses dey try small-small, but many people don carry dia sick ones go private hospitals wey dey charge high money.
For Kubwa General Hospital Abuja, Madam Gift Arume wey bring her pikin, Wisdom, say dem no see doctor for over two hours. “Na paracetamol I give am to calm am down,” she talk.
For Bida FMC, Niger State, only small work dey happen. The hospital PRO, Mr Kayode Arokoyo, say consultants and house officers dey work but “no fit do as resident doctors no dey ground.”
The story no different for Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where people dey complain say dem dey wait tire before doctor go see dem. Some don run go private clinics.
For Benue, some patients wey suppose get operation say the strike don make dem dey wait in pain. Kondom Dennis talk say e suppose do surgery for BSUTH but strike stop am.
For Bauchi and Lagos too, many wards don empty. Nurses and students dey manage few patients wey remain while new admissions no dey accepted.
The NARD president, Dr Muhammad Suleiman, talk say government never do anything serious about the matter. “We still dey talk, but no action yet,” he yarn.
Na allowance, sack of doctors for Lokoja, and unpaid arrears still be di wahala.
As the strike enter day 11, Nigerians dey beg government make dem settle with the doctors quick-quick so hospitals fit open again.
