
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Senator Ekperikpe Ekpo, don reaffirm Federal Government support for the African Petroleum Regulators Forum (AFRIPERF), a continental platform wey aim to harmonise oil and gas regulations and attract more investment into Africa’s energy sector.

The minister make the pledge during a meeting with the Chairperson of AFRIPERF and Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, for Abuja on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Eyesan reveal say membership of AFRIPERF dey continue to grow as more African countries show interest in joining the forum.
According to her, countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, The Gambia, Madagascar, Sudan, Guinea and Togo don already sign the AFRIPERF charter, while several other African nations dey process their membership.
“We don dey engage and sensitize regulators across the continent, and we are happy say many countries don show interest in joining the forum,” Eyesan talk.
She explain say the platform was created to encourage cooperation among African petroleum regulators, strengthen regulatory frameworks and create a more attractive environment for investors across the continent.
Speaking during the meeting, Senator Ekpo commend the efforts of AFRIPERF and stress the need for Africa to speak with one voice on critical energy matters, especially as the world continues discussions around energy transition and sustainable development.
The minister also point to Nigeria’s recent success in securing the Secretary-General position of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), describing it as evidence of Africa’s growing influence in global energy affairs.
According to him, Africa must play a stronger role in shaping international energy policies and protecting the interests of the continent.
Ekpo assured the forum of Nigeria’s full support and pledged that the country would leverage its vast regulatory experience and expertise to help AFRIPERF achieve its objectives.
He added that stronger collaboration among African regulators would help unlock investment opportunities, improve energy security and accelerate the growth of the oil and gas industry across the continent.
The minister further stressed that a united regulatory framework would enhance investor confidence and position Africa as a competitive destination for global energy investments.
