Vice President Kashim Shettima don reveal say Federal Government go begin distribute 10,000 electric tricycles across Nigeria from August 2026 as part of efforts to improve public transportation and reduce movement costs.

Shettima make the announcement during a courtesy visit by members of Transporters For Tinubu/Shettima 2027 for Abuja. According to am, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) go spearhead the distribution of the electric tricycles across the North-East region, with plans to extend the initiative to other parts of the country.

The Vice President explain say President Bola Tinubu don already approve expansion of the programme through different regional development commissions nationwide.

According to Shettima, the administration’s major target na to transform Nigeria from a fragmented transport system into a fully integrated logistics network where ports, railways, CNG-powered trucks, inland waterways, airports and feeder roads work together to support trade, agriculture, industry and national development.

He say government transport reform agenda dey focus on nationwide deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), upgrade of major ports and strengthening of logistics infrastructure to improve the working conditions of transport operators across road, rail, maritime, aviation and pipeline sectors.

“Our vision na seamless logistics chain where container fit move from seaport to rail, from rail to CNG truck and finally reach businesses and markets without unnecessary delays,” Shettima talk.

The Vice President also highlighted the success of the Presidential CNG Initiative, noting say many heavy-duty trucks don begin operate with Nigerian gas, helping transporters cut fuel expenses significantly.

He added say reforms in the maritime sector, including operations at the Lekki Deep Sea Port and implementation of the National Single Window project, go help make Nigerian ports more efficient and globally competitive.

Shettima assured transport workers say the Federal Government go continue to support policies that promote affordable fuel, better working conditions, insurable vehicle fleets and sustainable transport businesses.

Earlier, Technical Adviser to the Vice President on Transportation, Logistics and Innovation, Prince Segun Obayendo, said transport unions across aviation, maritime, rail and road sectors have expressed support for the Tinubu administration based on achievements recorded in different sectors of the economy.

Also speaking, Secretary-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Comrade Oniha Erazua, commended the administration for engaging stakeholders in the transport industry and expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would deliver greater benefits to Nigerians in the coming years.

The planned rollout of 10,000 electric tricycles is expected to boost cleaner transportation, create jobs and improve mobility for millions of Nigerians.
