Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, don direct all political appointees serving under his administration wey don publicly declare support for, or defect to, other political parties to immediately resign from their positions.

The governor gave the directive in a statement released on Tuesday, warning that any affected appointee who fails to comply within 48 hours will face immediate termination and loss of all official benefits.

Loyalty to Government Must Remain Intact

According to Governor Fintiri, the decision became necessary to maintain discipline, loyalty and the integrity of public service within the state government.

He stressed that political appointees are expected to support and defend the policies, programmes and political direction of the administration under which they serve.

The governor noted that allowing appointees who have aligned themselves with other political parties to remain in office could undermine government operations.

Fear of Sabotage and Information Leakage

Fintiri warned that divided loyalty among government officials could lead to sabotage, leakage of sensitive information and obstruction of government policies and political strategies.

He therefore ordered all affected appointees to submit their resignation letters to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government within 48 hours of the directive.

Government Begins Compliance Monitoring

The governor also directed the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service to compile and verify a comprehensive list of all affected political appointees.

The list, according to the directive, will be used to monitor compliance with the order.

Defaulters Risk Losing Salaries and Benefits

Governor Fintiri further warned that any appointee who refuses to resign within the stipulated period will face immediate dismissal from office.

He added that such individuals will also lose access to salaries, entitlements and other benefits attached to their appointments, while further administrative actions may follow.

“Public Office Requires Loyalty” – Fintiri

The governor emphasized that public office is a position of trust and must remain aligned with the vision, mandate and agenda of the administration.

According to him, government cannot tolerate divided loyalty from officials entrusted with public responsibilities.

The directive takes immediate effect and is expected to impact political appointees who have recently declared support for opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 political season.
