Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) don talk say fuel subsidy removal don bring better change for Nigeria energy sector as e open road for innovation, competition and digital transformation for downstream market.
During President Bola Tinubu Independence Day broadcast wey mark Nigeria 65 years, him talk say removing subsidy no be easy decision, but e necessary to rescue economy and make sure Nigerians enjoy the benefit of their national wealth.
MEMAN chairman, Mr. Huub Stokman, yarn this one for Lagos during OTL Africa Downstream Week 2025 panel wey dem title “Navigating the New Frontier: Competition and Market Access in the Downstream Oil & Gas Industry.”
Stokman talk say the new system don create chance for new models like Energy-as-a-Service, Virtual Power Plants, and peer-to-peer energy trading wey go make efficiency and access better.
He talk say as Dangote Refinery don start to work, Nigeria no too dey depend on imported fuel again, and e don change the game for local supply.
According to am, government people don dey see natural gas as cleaner fuel, and demand for Compressed and Liquefied Natural Gas (CNG and LNG) dey rise across different sectors.
Stokman still mention say many companies don dey move into solar, biofuel and digital systems wey dey help reduce cost and make work faster.
But he warn say if government no fit give clear and stable regulation, investors no go get confidence to put money for long-term projects.
He also talk say Africa still get big wahala — energy poverty and the push for clean energy. “Over 600 million Africans never get light. That one na big opportunity for decentralised renewable solutions,” he talk.
Stokman call for better teamwork among African countries through regional gas pipelines and shared policy under ECOWAS and SADC. He beg African nations to invest for battery storage, LPG bottling and CNG compression.
He still encourage downstream companies to try pay-as-you-go system, small local depots and data tools to reduce cost and boost productivity.
“Make we no forget say the future of Africa energy dey inside technology, green innovation and partnership,” he add.
