Di nomination follow Section 191(3) of di 1999 Constitution of di Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), after di sudden death of former Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, wey pass away on December 11, 2025.
Akpe Pass Through Screening
Peter Akpe, wey be former member of Bayelsa State House of Assembly and until recently serve as Chief of Staff to Governor Diri, don undergo screening by di State House of Assembly.
Akpe come from Sagbama Local Government Area for Bayelsa West Senatorial District — same zone with di late Ewhrudjakpo. Observers say dis move reflect effort to maintain zoning balance for di state.
Political Consultations Precede Nomination
Di nomination come after weeks of political consultations, lobbying and speculations across Bayelsa, as stakeholders debate about zoning fairness, loyalty and administrative competence.
