End Natasha Wahala: Senate Must Allow Am Resume

For over 181 days, Nigerian Senate don dey carry fight wey no get head with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, wey come leave Kogi Central people without representation.

Di wahala start March dis year after small quarrel about seating arrangement between Natasha and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Dem later walk Natasha commot from chamber and suspend her for six months.

Natasha accuse Akpabio say e dey punish am because she reject him sexual advances. But Akpabio deny d matter, talk say suspension na because she break Senate rules.

Court sef don talk. For July, Justice Binta Nyako of Federal High Court, Abuja, call di suspension “excessive and unconstitutional” and order make Senate recall Natasha. But Senate still dey prove stubborn.

On August 28, Natasha write Clerk of National Assembly say she wan resume on September 4, since she don serve d 6 months finish. Instead of allow am enter, Acting Clerk Yahaya Danzaria reply say her suspension still dey until Court of Appeal finish di case.

Lawyers and civil society groups don blast Senate. Dem call am “petty,” “vindictive,” and even “illegal.” Dem talk say di action dey violate Section 68 of 1999 Constitution wey give every constituency right to representation.

Observers warn say if Natasha finally win for court, na taxpayers go still pay for Senate wahala. Meanwhile, d Kogi Central people dey suffer because dem no get person dey represent dem for Senate.

Pundits dey beg Senate make dem show maturity and leadership. Instead of dey disgrace democracy, dem suppose allow Natasha resume and find political solution to end d wahala.
