For statement wey dem release on October 12, 2025, the group wey dey fight for Kanu freedom claim say from October 13, 2022, when Court of Appeal discharge and acquit am, till October 21, 2022, when another panel issue stay of execution, no legal ground dey to hold am again.
Dem talk say the “jurisdictional vacuum” wey happen for that period kill the case in law, and the later stay order wey Justice Haruna Tsammani panel give “na attempt to bring back dead case.”
The consortium talk say the stay order no suppose exist for criminal matter because once court don acquit person, the judgment take effect immediately — no appeal or stay fit hold am back.
According to dem, the continued detention of Kanu by DSS after that period show “executive disobedience and judicial corruption.”
Dem come call on the United Nations, African Union and ICC make dem step in to investigate how Nigeria courts and government take handle Kanu matter.
