- The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, don open door to work with the Southwest Development Commission, SWDC, to bring back old railway routes wey don long time lock and improve train movement inside the Southwest region.
NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, talk this one on Wednesday when him host the SWDC team led by their MD, Charles Diji Akinola, for Lagos. Opeifa yarn say NRC dey open for partnership and happy say the commission wan continue the rail master plan wey DAWN Commission start.
For statement wey NRC PRO, Callistus Unyimadu sign, Akinola talk say SWDC dey ginger by the work wey DAWN do for rail and infrastructure for Southwest. He say rail revival go help open business for the six states.
Old Rail Lines Go Come Back Alive
Akinola talk say for short term, the commission wan collect some old routes like Osogbo–Dagbolu–Erunmu and Idogo line, run am with NRC on profit-sharing. He say the Idogo line go help carry farm produce enter Lagos and carry consumer goods go other states.
He add say SWDC dey plan new routes for medium term and go need operational licence plus land for warehouse development. All six Southwest governors don support the plan.
NRC Give Green Light
Dr. Opeifa respond say everything wey SWDC ask for dey possible and NRC don start work on their request for operating track access licence. He say the new law wey move rail from exclusive list don open the sector for states and private companies.
He add say NRC dey ready to rail with all Southwest states under the “Railing With the States” initiative.
After the meeting, the joint team visit Iddo Terminal and Mobolaji Johnson Station for Lagos.
