Lawmakers for the House of Representatives Nigeria don call on the Federal Government to build special housing estates across the country for retired military personnel and widows of soldiers wey die during active service.

The resolution come on Thursday after the House adopt motion wey Hussaini Jallo, wey represent Igabi Federal Constituency for Kaduna State, present during plenary.

While opening debate on the motion, Jallo talk say many members of the Nigerian Armed Forces dey retire after years of service but dem no get access to decent and affordable housing.

According to am, widows and family members of officers and soldiers wey lose their lives during operations often face serious hardship because government no provide enough housing support for them.

He explain say giving retired soldiers and families of fallen heroes decent housing na important part of military welfare and a way for the nation to show appreciation for their sacrifices.

Jallo also point out say several housing institutions already exist inside Nigeria security sector, including housing schemes from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

He add say these institutions don already build housing projects in different parts of the country, showing say Nigeria get the capacity to support such programme.

The lawmaker also suggest make the Federal Housing Authority coordinate a national housing scheme wey go bring together all these security housing projects under one organised framework.

According to am, many countries already get structured housing schemes for retired soldiers and security personnel as part of their welfare and veterans support system.

Jallo warn say if government no create a proper and coordinated housing plan for retired military personnel and families of fallen officers, e fit affect morale and welfare inside the armed forces.

After adopting the motion, the House urge the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to create a national post-service housing scheme for retired military officers and widows across the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

Lawmakers also ask the Housing Ministry and the Ministry of Defence Nigeria to make the Federal Housing Authority the main agency to supervise and implement the programme.
