House of Representatives don tell Federal Government make dem stop WAEC plan to use Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The lawmakers talk say the move fit cause mass failure, frustration, and wahala for students, especially for rural areas wey no get computers or steady light.
Hon. Kelechi Nworgu wey raise the motion for plenary on Thursday, say e go better make government wait small before dem start the CBT system for WAEC.
“Many of the over 25,500 schools for Nigeria, especially for village side, no get computers or trained computer teachers. Plenty students never even touch computer before, yet dem wan make dem write nine subjects for CBT,” Nworgu talk.
He warn say if dem rush the plan, e fit lead to mass failure, depression, and social wahala among young people. Nworgu suggest make WAEC postpone the CBT rollout till around 2029–2030 session when dem don get enough training and equipment.
After the motion, House don order WAEC and Ministry of Education make dem suspend the CBT plan for now.
Dem also talk make government put money for 2026 budget to employ computer teachers, build computer labs with internet, and buy standby generators for schools across the country.
House still direct its Committees on Basic Examination Bodies, Digital and Information Technology, and Education make dem work with stakeholders and report back in four weeks.
