
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu don appoint former Nigerian ambassador, Ismail Abba Yusuf, as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Dis appointment come out for statement wey Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, release on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the appointment still dey subject to approval by the Senate, in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026.
“President Tinubu don send letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, dey request make dem quickly confirm Ambassador Yusuf to replace Professor Abdullahi Usman, wey resign earlier this week after about 14 months for the office,” the statement talk.
Ismail Yusuf go take over from Professor Abdullahi Usman, wey step down on Monday as NAHCON chairman.
Yusuf na seasoned diplomat. E serve as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.
Recall say for August 2024, President Tinubu appoint Abdullahi Usman as NAHCON chairman after he sack Jalal Arabi, wey dey under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged mismanagement of the N90 billion presidential subsidy for the 2024 Hajj.
With Yusuf appointment, presidency say e expect smooth leadership transition and better management of Nigeria Hajj operations, pending Senate confirmation.
