Labour, governors, FG hold late-night meeting for Aso Rock as insecurity protest plan dey ground

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu don hold closed-door meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for Aso Rock on Tuesday night, as labour dey plan nationwide protest over the rising insecurity for the country.

The meeting come as pressure dey mount on the Federal Government following repeated cases of kidnapping, bandit attacks, and killings across different parts of Nigeria.

Among people wey attend the meeting na NLC President, Joe Ajaero; Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris; and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, also dey the meeting, alongside other top government officials.

After the meeting, NLC President Joe Ajaero talk say discussions still dey go on and labour go first consult internally before taking final decision on the planned protest.

“We come for consultation with Mr President, and we don finish. We go go back to our meeting and continue tomorrow. By tomorrow, una go hear the outcome,” Ajaero talk.

When journalists ask am if NLC still dey insist on the nationwide protest, he respond say the decision no be for one person alone.

“This no be organisation wey one man dey rule. We go digest wetin Mr President tell us and move forward from there,” he add.

Governor Hope Uzodimma confirm say consultation among major stakeholders still dey ongoing, stressing say dialogue better pass confrontation.

“Consultation dey go on. We dey talk. Labour, government and the people — all of us dey serve the country,” Uzodimma say.

Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, explain say na labour members themselves ask to see the President, and dem don finally meet am.

“Dem don see Mr President and dem don hear am directly. At least, the President don explain say the economy don begin come out from the woods, and that na good news,” she talk.

As at the time of filing this report, NLC never officially announce whether the nationwide protest over insecurity go still hold or not, as consultations dey continue behind closed doors.
