President of the Republic of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, don reveal say im country dey target $5 billion trade volume with Nigeria, as e also promise to support Nigeria for the fight against terrorism and insecurity.

Erdogan talk this one for Ankara on Wednesday during joint press briefing with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, wey dey Turkiye for official state visit. According to am, discussions on the trade target and other cooperation areas don already start.

The Turkish president say the decision to establish Joint Economy and Trade Committee between both countries go help expand trade, encourage investment and support Turkish businesses for Nigeria, so the $5bn target go possible.

“Today, we review our relationship with President Tinubu and im delegation across trade, investment, energy, education and defence industry,” Erdogan tok.

“We see strong potential for trade and investment. Our commitment na to reach $5 billion trade volume, and we don discuss the steps wey go take us reach there. The Joint Economy and Trade Committee wey we agree today go play key role,” he add.

Erdogan praise President Tinubu for im determination to attract foreign investment, say the presence of many ministers and top officials for the visit show serious commitment.

He also commend Tinubu reforms for the energy sector, wey e say don help restructure Nigeria economy. Erdogan express hope say cooperation between Turkish Petroleum Corporation and Nigerian partners go soon deliver positive results.

Turkiye Promise Help Against Terrorism

On insecurity, Erdogan say Turkiye ready to assist Nigeria based on im experience in fighting insurgency.

“Terrorist organisations, especially for Africa Sahel region, dey threaten peace of the entire continent,” he say.

“We stand with the friendly people of Nigeria in their fight against terrorism under President Tinubu leadership. We don discuss deeper cooperation for military training and intelligence, and we ready to share our experience,” Erdogan add.

He also say meetings between Nigerian officials and Turkish defence companies during the visit go soon produce positive outcomes.

Tinubu Appreciate Turkiye

President Tinubu, for im remarks, thank Turkiye for im openness and willingness to work with Nigeria to promote peace, stability and prosperity globally.

He stress the importance of building inclusive economy, especially one wey go carry vulnerable people along.

“We dey talk about trade, business without restrictions, opportunity for people wey wan learn, work and prosper,” Tinubu say.

“How do we build inclusive economy together? How do we involve vulnerable people? How do we ensure peace for the world?” the president ask.

Tinubu also assure say Nigeria go continue to play key role in promoting peace and stability across Africa, despite challenges around the country.

“We discuss terrorism and how to defeat agents of destabilisation,” he add.

The Nigerian leader also praise Erdogan efforts toward global peace, especially Turkiye role in Somalia.

Nine Agreements Signed

At the end of the bilateral meeting, officials from both countries exchange nine agreements. These include defence cooperation, diaspora policy, establishment of Joint Economy and Trade Committee, halal quality infrastructure, education, media and communication, higher education, diplomacy training, and cooperation on social services and women affairs.
