Abuja – The House of Representatives don take important step to improve Nigeria election system as dem approve amendment for Electoral Act wey go give Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) more power and tighten how elections dey run. Dem still postpone one controversial clause.
Yesterday, lawmaker dem discuss the Electoral Act Amendment Bill clause by clause for plenary. Dem approve provisions wey go make elections dey more transparent, reduce wahala after election, and stop manipulation.
Some key clauses wey dem approve include:
Clauses 3, 5, 6: Dem align definitions with current electoral practices.
Clauses 10 & 12: Dem strengthen INEC powers over election organisation, supervision, and deployment of personnel.
Clauses 18 & 22: Dem tweak voter registration and display of voters’ register to stop manipulation and make sure all eligible voters fit register.
Clauses 23 & 29: Dem clarify political party nomination process and submission of candidates’ list to INEC.
Clauses 31, 32 & 34: Dem approve party primaries, publication of candidates’ info, and eligibility rules to fix pre-election wahala.
Clauses 47, 50 & 54: Dem back use of technology for voting and voter accreditation.
Clause 60 & 62: Dem strengthen result declaration and collation to reduce election disputes.
Clauses 64 & 65: Dem put tougher penalties for electoral offences like vote-buying.
Clauses 71, 73 & 74: Dem approve election petition timelines and streamline post-election legal processes.

House spokesman talk say the amendments dey aimed to make Nigeria elections fairer, transparent, and reduce tension wey dey follow election results.
The amendments still go need final approval, but lawmaker dem believe say this na big step to fix loopholes wey don show during past elections and strengthen INEC’s capacity to manage credible polls.
