
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, don accuse members of All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to disrupt the August 15, 2026 governorship election and, as e be, the allegation don spark fresh political clash between both sides. Meanwhile, APC don quickly reject the claims, saying na sign of fear from the governor.
According to statement wey im spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, release, Adeleke allege say some APC elements dey try subvert the will of Osun people because dem no believe say dem fit win the election.
“After dem see say Osun people don reject them, dem don turn to anti-democratic tactics to grab power,” the statement talk.
Furthermore, the governor claim say opinion polls wey APC allegedly commission show say their popularity no pass 30 per cent, while im own approval rating dey between 68 and 72 per cent. As a result, he insist say outcome of the election already clear before August 15.
In addition, Adeleke accuse the opposition of increasing desperation after comments from Akin Ogunbiyi about position of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the election.
Moreover, he allege say factions linked to Gboyega Oyetola and others don attempt different strategies, including trying to divide other political platforms and even pushing for deregistration of parties.
“They dey fear the people and the power of the ballot,” Adeleke add, accusing the opposition of trying to deny citizens their democratic rights.
However, APC no waste time to respond. Party spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, dismiss the allegation, saying Adeleke dey panic over possible defeat.
“This na simple arithmetic. Many strong politicians don leave their camp,” Olabisi talk, mentioning names like Wole Oke, Fadahunsi, Ajilesoro, Dotun Babayemi and others.
On the other hand, he describe Adeleke party as weak and unpopular, urging Osun people to ignore the governor’s claims.
As political tension dey rise ahead of the election, observers warn say all parties need to play by democratic rules to ensure peaceful and credible poll.
