Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, don ask for stronger judicial independence, strict discipline, and big reforms to restore Nigerians trust for the country justice system.
She yarn this one on Monday for Abuja during the opening of the 2025 All Nigeria Judges’ Conference wey National Judicial Institute organise.
According to the CJN, judiciary wey wan get respect must stand gidigba for independence, hold ethics well, and remove all the wahala wey dey slow court work. She still point finger at corruption, old infrastructure, and administrative wahala as problems wey still dey disturb the system.
Justice Kekere-Ekun talk say the judiciary still dey depend on executive for money, and this kind arrangement dey weaken justice delivery.
“True independence na the backbone of justice. If e no dey, the temple of justice go dey shake,” she talk.
She still admit say some judges dey fall short for ethical standards, but the National Judicial Council (NJC) dey work to make sure discipline strong well-well.
The CJN warn people wey dey rush go media to attack court decisions without sabi the facts, say na actions like this dey scatter public trust.
She beg judges to put fairness, equity and the spirit of justice first before technicalities.
NJI Administrator, Justice Babatunde Adejumo, also call for strong commitment to excellence, integrity and modern judicial training, including areas like cybercrime, digital evidence, election matters, and anti-corruption.
He talk say democracy strong only when judiciary strong and trustworthy.
