President Bola Ahmed Tinubu don officially send letter give Senate make dem confirm Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN) as the new INEC Chairman.
The letter wey Senate President Godswill Akpabio read for plenary on Tuesday show say Tinubu dey follow the 1999 Constitution Section 154 (1) to nominate Amupitan and e don beg Senate make dem handle the matter “sharply and with urgency.”
“I dey happy to present Professor Joash Amupitan, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, make una confirm am as INEC Chairman,” Tinubu talk for the letter.
The President still attach Amupitan’s CV for the Senate to check and send greeting give Akpabio.
Akpabio don refer the matter go Committee of the Whole make dem look into am “as soon as possible.”
For another letter, Tinubu still ask Senate make dem confirm Mrs. Ayo Omidiran as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission plus 28 other commissioners, among dem Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi from Kwara State.
The National Council of State don already approve Amupitan name last week Thursday when dem meet for Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Professor Joash Amupitan, wey be 58 years old Professor of Law from Kogi State, go be the first person from North-Central to hold the position of INEC Chairman after Professor Mahmood Yakubu finish him 10-year tenure for October 2025.
