Federal Government and World Bank don restate say dem dey committed to expand social protection system and create more economic opportunities for poor and vulnerable Nigerians. This come as World Bank $750 million support for NG CA-RES don attract over $2.2 billion investment from Nigerian states.

The announcement come during first visit of World Bank Regional Manager for Social Protection and Labour for West and Central Africa, Robert Chase, to Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, for Abuja on Wednesday.

Bagudu talk say Nigeria social programmes dey enjoy strong support from World Bank. E explain say constitution require all levels of government to pursue shared goals wey go improve social welfare and inclusive growth.

Minister add say better coordination dey needed for programmes like NG CA-RES, Nigeria for Women Project, and HOPE Agenda, especially at ward level, to make sure communities benefit and no duplication dey happen. E also say many Nigerians dey hardworking but still dey trapped in poverty because economic returns dey limited.

“Mr President don challenge us to turn these reforms into real improvements for people life. Our goal na to lift millions out of poverty by 2030 through coordinated programmes, better efficiency, and more financing,” Bagudu talk.

Permanent Secretary, Dr Deborah Odoh, describe World Bank as strong partner for Nigeria social protection reforms, while Robert Chase hail Nigeria leadership for implementing large social programmes. He add say World Bank $750 million support don already attract over $2.2 billion from states, and next phase go expand cash transfers, ID systems and livelihood support under Bank Country Partnership Framework.
