Rivers governor thank cabinet members but announce immediate removal after court decision

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, don sack all commissioners and public officers wey dey serve under him.

Fubara announce the decision for Port Harcourt on Wednesday evening through statement wey him Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, release. The governor say the action dey follow recent Supreme Court judgment and e go take effect immediately.

Before the announcement, Fubara hold valedictory session with him cabinet to mark Nigeria 65th Independence Anniversary. For the meeting, he thank the commissioners and other appointees for their service and contribution to Rivers development for the last two years.

According to the statement:

“His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, don thank members of him cabinet for their work and contribution to the growth of Rivers State. But based on recent Supreme Court judgment, all commissioners and public officers wey dey affected don lose their appointment with immediate effect.”

He also use the session take remind Nigerians say true independence mean peace, unity and progress. Fubara promise say he go continue to serve the people with renewed energy and commitment.

This move no be the first shake-up wey Rivers cabinet don face. The former administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), earlier suspend Fubara appointees after President Bola Tinubu declare state of emergency for Rivers. Boards and parastatals self don dey dissolved since then.

The latest sack now leave Rivers State governance open for fresh appointments as political watchers dey monitor who Fubara go bring in next.
