The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) don win case wey make two National Assembly staff — Mustapha Mohammed and Tijjani Goni — land conviction for ₦4.8 million job scam.
Justice B.M. Bassi for FCT High Court, Abuja, talk say the two men collect money from two people under false promise say dem go help get work for Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, yarn on Wednesday say the case start after the victims — Saifudeen Yakub and Aminu Abubakar — write petition against the suspects. The suspects, with one other person wey still dey run, collect ₦4.8 million promise say dem go use am arrange job offer.
Investigation show say Mohammed talk say him be National Assembly staff wey get connection for CBN and FIRS. He ask the complainants make dem pay ₦4 million each, promise say their appointment letter go ready by April 27, 2021. The victims later pay ₦3 million for Zenith Bank account and another ₦300,000 each for fake medical screening for Access Bank.
After ICPC finish their investigation, dem carry the two men go court with five charges — conspiracy, forgery, and obtaining money by false pretence — wey break the law under Advance Fee Fraud Act 2006 and Penal Code.
Later, under plea bargain arrangement for Section 270 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, the men plead guilty to one charge of making false statement. As part of the deal, dem return the full ₦4.8 million and pay ₦100,000 fine each.
