The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) don renew im promise to push better farming and food security for Nigeria through strong research and partnership wey go help farmers and communities grow well.
The Director General of IITA and CGIAR Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Simeon Ehui, talk this one when him visit Abuja go meet United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, Mr. Mohamed Malick Fall, for serious meeting on how to make agriculture sustainable, support youth wey dey do agribusiness, and build stronger food systems.
Dr. Ehui talk say IITA don already achieve plenty good things for Africa farming—especially for soil health, seed improvement, and plant protection. He still show one of the institute’s best innovation, the Semi-Autotrophic Hydroponics (SAH) system, wey don help increase crop yield across different countries.
According to am, “The big challenge now na how to make all these good farm technologies reach farmers for large scale. That one go only happen if we work together with partners like the United Nations. IITA go continue to help Africa become food-sufficient.”
For him own side, Mr. Fall from UN talk say the organisation go continue to support Nigeria agricultural transformation as part of the global plan to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He yarn say, “For country like Nigeria, agriculture fit change the economy completely if government and partners invest well. This meeting na to build bridge between UN and IITA to make that dream happen.”
