
One Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Maxwell Opara, don withdraw the court case wey he file against former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, after the police boss resign from office.

Opara announce the withdrawal when the matter come up for hearing before the Federal High Court for Abuja.
He tell the presiding judge, Umar Mohammed, say the case don become academic, since Egbetokun don already step down from the position of Inspector-General of Police.
Case Against Egbetokun
Before now, Opara file the suit against Kayode Egbetokun alongside the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Police Council, the President of Nigeria, and the Federal Civil Service Commission.
The case, wey he file on September 10, 2024, ask the court to declare say Egbetokun don reach the compulsory retirement age of 60 years, and suppose don leave public service.
The lawyer also argue say once appointment don end by law, any later amendment for the law no fit bring the person back to the same office again.
He also ask the court to stop Egbetokun from continuing to present himself as the country’s Inspector-General of Police.
Court Strike Out The Case
However, when the matter come up again, Opara inform the court say he decide to withdraw the case because the issues raised don lose relevance after the resignation of the former police boss.
According to am, even though he want the court make ruling wey go prevent such situation for future, previous judgments from the Court of Appeal show say courts no dey entertain cases wey don become mere academic exercise.
After hearing the application, Justice Mohammed agree and strike out the case.

Kayode Egbetokun resign as Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police on February 24, citing personal and family reasonsfor his decision to leave the position.
