The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education don promise to work closely with polytechnic institutions across Nigeria to solve the many problems wey dey affect the sector.

Chairman of the committee, Fuad Laguda, make the promise on Tuesday during the resumed budget defence session for federal polytechnics.
Laguda talk say polytechnics get very important role to play for Nigeria’s plan to grow its industrial and technological capacity.
According to am, the institutions dey help produce middle-level manpower, wey remain very important for national development and economic growth.
Need To Invest More For Technical Education
Laguda stress say government must continue to invest in polytechnic education if Nigeria really want to achieve technological progress.
He say the country no fit reach its technological goals without well-funded and properly equipped technical institutions.
“We always be partners in progress. Everything wey we dey do na to improve the system and make things work better,” he talk.
The lawmaker also advise the Committee of Federal Rectors make the few institutions wey never submit their budget documents do so quickly to allow proper legislative oversight.
Reps Approve Budget Performance
During the session, the committee approve the budget performance reports of federal polytechnics across the country.
However, lawmakers raise concerns about compliance issues and staffing problems at the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN).
Laguda question the operational structure of the council, especially why the agency dey manage eight regional offices with only 58 staff members.
He ask how the council dey maintain effective coordination and service delivery with such limited manpower.
CPN Promise Full Cooperation
Responding to the concerns, CPN Registrar, Adegbiji Adeniyi, assure the committee say the council remain committed to carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
He explain say the council get authority to regulate and accredit private organisations operating inside Nigeria’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
Adegbiji also promise to submit all requested documents within the timeframe given and assured the lawmakers say the council go fully cooperate with the committee to improve accountability and performance in the sector.
