Abuja — National Pension Commission (PenCom) don announce say era of delayed pension payment for retirees of treasury-funded Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) don end.

Head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Buwai, talk this for interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday for Abuja.

According to Buwai, PenCom don dey ensure prompt payment of accrued pension rights through sustained reforms and better remittance systems.

He talk, “As at today, payments for November retirees don complete. Di accrued rights of those wey go retire in December go dey paid before 15th as we don announce before, so dem fit collect their benefits before festive season.”

Buwai explain say Federal Government recently release N758 billion bond proceeds to clear outstanding pension liabilities, including arrears for pension increases wey don dey since 2007. With all these measures, delay in pension payment for treasury-funded MDA retirees no go dey again.

PenCom still dey focus on strengthening the pension system and protecting welfare of retirees nationwide.

Buwai add say commission dey also tackle issue of employers wey dey fail remit pension contributions to Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs).

Him talk say PenCom’s Director-General, Omolola Oloworaran, recently sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to recover unremitted contributions and enforce compliance.

He add, “Di MoU go empower ICPC to enforce prompt disbursement of recovered funds into Retirement Savings Accounts and hold defaulting employers accountable under law. Defaulters go face penalties as law talk.”

With these steps, PenCom don promise timely pension payment go now be reality for all retirees.
