House of Representatives don pass one important bill wey go help better the life of Nigerian police officers after retirement.
The bill, wey House Leader Hon. Julius Ihonvbere from Owan Federal Constituency carry come, talk say police no suppose dey under the Contributory Pension Scheme wey PenCom dey manage.
The new bill, wey don pass third reading for House, get title “A Bill for an Act to Establish Nigerian Police Force Pension Board…” and e go give police their own board to handle pension, gratuity and all retirement matters.
If President Bola Tinubu sign am, the new law go create a Police Pension Board wey go make sure police get their entitlement on time and no go suffer delay again.
The move follow plenty protest from retired police officers wey don tire for PenCom wahala. Dem say the contributory pension don cause hunger and shame for many ex-officers wey don serve the country.
For one of the protests wey dem call #PoliceProtest, old police officers and human rights activist Omoyele Soworemarch for Abuja, dey shout say “PenCom na killer disease worse pass cancer.”
One retired officer yarn say, “Some of us wey fight for Nigeria now dey open gate for people just to find food chop. E no suppose be like that.”
The new bill go make police pension work like military own, so that retired officers go dey get better welfare, quick payment and respect wey dem deserve after years of service.
