The Nigerian Senate don beg Federal Government make dem sharply raise the salary and allowance wey soldiers and other security people dey collect.
Senator Ali Ndume from Borno South raise the matter for Senate floor on Tuesday, say e no make sense as soldiers wey dey risk their life every day still dey collect small money.
The motion wey him carry come Senate get title “Urgent Need to Increase the Minimum Wage and Improve Conditions of Service for Members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies.”
Ndume yarn say the small ₦50,000 to ₦60,000 wey some junior officers dey collect no fit buy much again as everything for market don cost.
E even compare Nigeria soldiers with other African countries: Ghana soldiers dey collect around ₦180,000, South Africa ₦250,000, Egypt ₦230,000–₦280,000 and Kenya ₦200,000.
Ndume talk say, “How soldier go dey fight war, risk him life every day, and still dey collect small money wey no reach anything? E no good.”
After plenty talk, Senate tell Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning, plus the Salaries and Wages Commission make dem sit down and increase the pay well-well.
Senate still order dem Committees on Defence, Army, Navy and Air Force make dem work with the agencies wey go fit fix salary wey go match international standard.
Ndume still add say Nigeria need more soldiers and police people to fit handle the plenty wahala wey insecurity don cause. E also beg Tinubu government make dem buy better equipment to boost morale and make soldiers fit do their work well.
