Chairman of UBA Group and founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation, Tony Elumelu, don tell world leaders make dem no leave Africa behind for the new digital and AI (Artificial Intelligence) revolution wey dey change global economy.
He talk this one for World Bank and IMF Annual Meeting wey dey happen for Washington DC during one seminar wey dem tag “Boosting Productivity Growth in the Digital Age.”
Elumelu talk say digital inclusion na the same thing as economic inclusion, and the world must make sure say Africa get seat for table where dem dey plan how AI go run things.
“My message simple — Africa must be included. Digital revolution no suppose pass us by again,” he talk.
He still talk say make African governments face the electricity wahala once and for all because no digital or AI progress fit happen if light no dey.
“Our youths no dey beg for pity; dem just need system wey dey work. If we fix electricity, Africa go move forward. If we no do am, na wahala be that,” Elumelu warn.
Elumelu also launch UBA White Paper wey dem title “Banking on Africa’s Future: Unlocking Capital and Partnerships for Sustainable Growth.” The document show say Africa get over $4 trillion untapped economic potential.
He say make Africans begin invest their own money for their continent first before expecting foreign investors to join hand.
“No one go develop Africa for us. Look Dangote Refinery — na African banks fund am, not oyibo banks,” he talk.
Elumelu talk say pension and sovereign funds for Africa suppose dey used to build energy, roads and factories, not just to buy treasury bills. He say talk no be the main work — action na wetin go change Africa story.
