Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) don win five out of six Area Councils for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), tightening grip on Abuja ahead of 2027 general election.
For the election wey hold Saturday, February 21, APC win AMAC, Kuje, Abaji, Bwari and Kwali, while Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) carry Gwagwalada.
National leadership of African Democratic Congress (ADC) no release any official statement as at press time, although its AMAC chairmanship candidate, Dr. Moses Paul, refuse to accept defeat, alleging irregularities.
Tinubu Hail Peaceful Poll
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praise the successful conduct of the FCT polls and by-elections for Rivers and Kano, saying the exercise strengthen Nigeria democratic culture and institutions.
The President congratulate winners and urge them to serve with humility and patriotism. He also commend Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and voters for peaceful process.
Yilwatda, Wike React
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, describe the victory as proof of party grassroots strength, unity and resilience.
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, also congratulate Tinubu, saying the outcome expose what he call “emergency democrats” wey always criticise government.
According to Wike, residents of FCT show say dem believe in APC leadership and Renewed Hope Agenda.
PDP Raise Concern
PDP call on INEC to release results of two wards for Kuje Area Council, claiming say indications show the party dey lead for those areas. The party also congratulate its winning candidate for Gwagwalada.
INEC deny allegation say dem migrate voters to new polling units during the election.
For Gwagwalada, INEC declare Mohammed Kasim of PDP winner with 22,165 votes, defeating APC candidate wey score 17,788 votes.
APC candidates also record clear victories for other councils, including strong showing for AMAC where party defeat ADC and PDP candidates with wide margin.
Meanwhile, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirm say dem arrest 20 persons over alleged electoral offences during the FCT polls.
With the outcome, political observers believe say APC don strengthen its political structure for Abuja ahead of 2027, even though FCT election na off-season poll.
