Lecturers suspend two-week strike after fresh promises from FG and Senate

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) don suspend dia two-week warning strike wey suppose end next Monday. Dem say na because Federal Government and National Assembly don promise again say dem go handle the union wahala.

ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, yarn this one for Abuja on Wednesday. E talk say na after the Yayale Ahmed Committee and Deputy Senate President put mouth for matter, the union reason say make dem give government small time.

But Prof. Piwuna warn say if government no fit do wetin dem promise inside the one month, ASUU go start strike again without notice.

ASUU demand still remain the same – make FG review the 2009 agreement, pay outstanding salaries and earned allowances, and release the university revitalisation fund wey dem promise.

After the last strike wey start October 12, government come vex, say dem go apply “No Work, No Pay” policy. Dem even tell vice-chancellors make dem count lecturers wey still dey work.

Senate don enter the matter too. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, Senator Aliyu Dandutse, don talk say dem go help settle the wahala between ASUU and FG once and for all.

Dem also plan to meet the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to talk the University of Abuja land matter wey still dey cause problem.
