Defence Headquarters (DHQ) don finally confirm say truly true, some military officers plan coup to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government.
This confirmation come months after Federal Government cancel the 65th Independence Anniversary parade for October 1, 2025, a move wey trigger rumours say coup attempt dey behind the decision. At that time, DHQ strongly deny the reports and insist say the parade cancellation no get anything to do with any coup plot.
DHQ also earlier talk say the arrest of some officers wey people mention no connect with any attempt to overthrow government.
But for fresh statement wey come out on Monday, Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Samaila Uba, confirm say investigations don reveal say some personnel truly involve in coup plotting.
According to the statement, investigation follow proper military procedures and don finish, with report already forwarded to higher authorities.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria wish to inform the general public say investigations don conclude and report don submit to appropriate superior authority in line with existing regulations,” the statement say.
Uba explain say the investigation carefully look into all circumstances around the affected officers and identify some of them for allegedly planning to overthrow government — action wey no align with military ethics, values and professional standards.
He add say officers wey get case to answer go soon face appropriate military judicial panel, as required under the Armed Forces Act and other service regulations.
“This process go ensure accountability while still respecting fairness and due process,” the statement add.
The defence spokesperson also stress say the action against the officers na purely disciplinary matter, part of internal efforts to maintain order, discipline and operational effectiveness inside the military.
Uba reassure Nigerians say the Armed Forces remain committed to professionalism, loyalty and full respect for constitutional authority.
Reports earlier indicate say about 16 military officers were arrested in the first week of the month over the alleged coup plot, while two others reportedly dey on the run.
