Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) don confirm successful discovery of new oil well after Chevron Nigeria Limited complete drilling of Awodi-07 appraisal and exploration well for shallow offshore western Niger Delta.
Chevron Nigeria Limited dey operate the asset under the NNPC Ltd and Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) Joint Venture arrangement.
According to NNPC Ltd, the Awodi-07 well na part of joint venture efforts to further identify and unlock oil and gas potential inside their existing asset portfolio.
Drilling work for the well start for late November 2025 and end for mid-December 2025. After full testing, logging and data collection, dem safely secure the well and officially close the drilling programme.

Ojulari Hail Discovery
Reacting to the development, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Bashir Ojulari, praise Chevron Nigeria Limited for the successful operation.
“The success of Awodi-07 well don further show the strength of the NNPC Ltd and CNL joint venture and our shared commitment to responsibly grow Nigeria hydrocarbon reserves,” Ojulari talk.
He add say the achievement align with NNPC priorities to increase oil production, strengthen national energy security and deliver long-term value to Nigerians.
Also speaking, Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPC Ltd, Mr Udy Ntia, say the discovery show the benefits of sustained collaboration and ongoing sector reforms.
“This discovery show why disciplined exploration, strong partnership and reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act dey very important,” Ntia say.
He add say NNPC Ltd dey look forward to work closely with Chevron Nigeria Limited to fully develop the discovery and move am towards production and monetisation.
NNPC Ltd and Chevron Nigeria Limited currently operate under a joint venture covering several oil and gas assets across the Niger Delta. Under the agreement, Chevron hold 40 per cent stake, while NNPC Ltd control the remaining share.
Through the joint venture, both partners plan to raise oil production to about 146,000 barrels per day to support government revenue, create jobs and strengthen Nigeria’s energy supply.
