Even as Federal Government don put seven-year ban on creating new universities, polytechnic and colleges of education, House of Reps still give green light for four new federal universities across Nigeria.

The decision happen on Tuesday for plenary after Hon. Abubakar Fulata, wey be Chairman House Committee on University Education, present four important bills wey dem later adopt.

The new universities wey dem approve include:

  1. Federal University of Technology, Kaduna – go replace the old Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna.

  2. Federal University, Biu, Borno State – go replace Nigerian Army University, Biu.

  3. Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri – go promote better teacher education.

  4. Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano – go help train new generation of teachers.

Fulata yarn say the new schools go help improve education quality and give youths better chance to study science, tech and teacher education. He say the bill go soon go Senate and later reach President Bola Tinubu desk for final signing.

Right now, Nigeria get about 72 federal universities, 42 polytechnic and 28 colleges of education, but over 200 new university bills still dey wait for National Assembly approval.

Na August 2024 FG announce say no more new federal schools for seven years because dem wan first fix old ones wey don already dey suffer poor funding and low quality.

ASUU self still dey on two-week warning strike because government never fulfill the 2009 agreement wey cover better pay, autonomy and university funding.
